Abstract |
This paper focuses on the property of yue 'more', which obligatorily occurs in Chinese Comparative Correlative Construction (hereafter yue-construction). Yue appears before an adjective or a verb. The... previous works simply assume that yue occurs with the following adjective/verb and functions to indicate that the relevant degree is increased. However, this paper points out that in some cases the target of its composition can be located in a deeper position. This paper proposes the lexical property of yue explicitly and shows how it is responsible in building the yue-construction. As a result it will be explained what kind of interpretation each instance of the yue-construction allows.show more
