Abstract Self-disgust is defined as a negative feeling of oneself and is similar to loneliness and a sense of inferiority. The purpose of this study is to clarify some aspects of self-disgust in adolescence, e...specially in terms of gender difference, and self-love, which is one dimension of self-affirmation. Two hundred and seventy undergrads and graduates were asked to answer a questionnaire that measure self-love, self-disgust, and other related factors of self-disgust. The results were as follows: (1) in some aspects females tended to report stronger feelings of self-disgust compared to males; (2) the more students self-affirmation was based in narcissistic tendencies, the more strongly he or she felt self-disgust; and (3) a lower level of self-disgust was associated with high self-affirmation, which is based in self-acceptance, and autonomy and future orientation. IN other words, this study suggested that self-affirmation is strongly associated with a feeling of self-disgust in adolescence.show more
