Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to review several studies associated with the psychological concept of collective efficacy and the resources and utility of collective efficacy in the field of sports. Th...is review has shown that 4 resources: (a) past performance accomplishments, (b) vicarious experiences, (c) verbal persuasion and (d) physiological states are resources of collective efficacy as well as self efficacy. In addition, it was suggested that group cohesion, coaching efficacy, attributes and behavior of team leaders, home advantage, group size and team process are thought to be influencing factors of collective efficacy. Especially group cohesion was important factor of collective efficacy, and these are influencing group performance while being related to each other. As a result, many previous studies describe collective efficacy as a positive prediction variable of the team performance. Therefore collective efficacy is highly useful psychological variable for performance in team sports. Approaches to acquire collective efficacy differ between newly formed teams and established teams, but as a common method to acquire collective efficacy, video is used by newly formed teams as well as established teams. Finally this review found that among other techniques, motivation videos for team sports are an effective tool to acquire collective efficacy.show more
