Abstract The emergence of millet agriculture in the Russian Far East and in the southern coastal area of the Korean Peninsula not only have similar dates of ca. 3400 cal BC, but are both also accompanied by a ...change in pottery styles and the introduction of northern Chinese style agricultural stone tools. The spread of millet agriculture to the southern Russian Far East from the inland area of the upper Mudanjiang River valley and to the southern, eastern coastal areas from the northwest Korean Peninsula at about 3400 cal BC was the first stage of early agriculture in Northeast Asia, and this spread may have been caused by climatic cooling. Foragers who were acculturated with northern Chinese agriculture in the northwestern Korean Peninsula and in the inland Russian Far East area respectively migrated to the southern Korean Peninsula and to the coastal area of the southern Russian Far East, bringing millet with them.show more
