Abstract The increasing population pressure and urbanization in Nepal constitute a higher demand for energy. This has led a huge challenge to support energy demand of larger population while limiting their imp...act on energy and environment. Energy consumed in Nepal is mostly derived from the non-renewable energy source. In order to pursue a sustainable development and the energy efficient planning in cities, it is important to get an understanding of inhabitants' energy consumption behavior. Therefore, this research aims to study energy use perspective at the household level and community level in towns of Kathmandu city. The study is conducted through 250 household field questionnaire survey of Ward No. 13, Kathmandu. The study shows that poor quality of urban services and energy intensive behavior has led the higher demand for energy. It is realized that awareness has a significant role in achieving energy efficiency both in domestic and community level. At the end, solutions have been drawn for reducing energy consumption in Kathmandu based on survey data analysis.show more
