Abstract |
An investigation on the self-quenching streamer mode using a small cylindrical gas counter has been carried out. The charge characteristics of the counter are presented, together with the influence of... various parameters such as concentration of ethyl alcohol, anode diameters, incident X-rays energies and gas mixtures. The results show that the occurrence of the double streamer is suppressed with an increasing in the concentration of ethyl alcohol and the self-quenching streamer mode can be observed clearly even in the case of using a thin anode wire, for example, 20μm. It is also found that the 50%-transition avalanche size depends on the initial deposited charges. The mechanism of the occurence of the self-quenching streamer is also discussed.show more
