Abstract Glass transition temparature for polyvinyl chloride was measured by high pressure DTA method over 15 to 250 MPa. The transition temperature at a measuring pressure was determined from a heating run of... 16 K/min after the sample has been glassified with the same rate at the pressure. The relationship of T_g against P was analyzed by the Simon-type equation and initial slope of the pressure dependence of T_g was given 18 K/100 MPa. The present thermal data and the dilatometric data, previously reported, show a similar pressure dependence. The difference in temperature for these data may be ascribed to time dependence. This fact may indicate that there is no preference for both entropic and volumetric factors to govern glass transition temperature. Detailed description of the instrument is also given.show more
