Abstract |
To study the characteristics of the pressure wave propagation through bubbly flow in a pipe, a vertical shock tube has been manufactured and fundamental experiments have been performed. A comparison o...f the present experimental data with the theoretical model reported in the past with respect to the pressure reflection and transmission coefficients for a normal shock wave refracting at an air/bubbled liquid interface is carried out. Also, a simple relation for the prediction of the propagation velocity of pressure wave in bubbly flow taken into account the elasticy of the confining walls is presented. It is concluded from a comparison of present experimental results with the prediction presented that the prediction is in very good agreement with the experimental data and in case of the void fraction lower than about 0.1%,the propagation velocity becomes significantly lower than that of theoretical prediction without considering the effect of the pipe elasticy reported in the past.show more
