Abstract |
When the head of a high-speed train enters a tunnel, it generates a compression wave ahead of it. And, the expansion wave is generated by the tail of train entering a tunne1. These waves are propagate...d through the tunnel and reflect at the outlet of tunnel. In this report, a formula for predicting the strengths of these compression and expansion waves generated by a train entering a tunnel has been derived. This formula was developed on the assumption that the flows around train head and tail are isentropic and the waves generated by train are infinitesima1-amplitude waves. Theoretical results have been compared with the experimental pressure variation and it was found the good agreement with these values.show more
