Abstract This paper describes the results of the numerical simulation and the wind tunnel model test of crossventilation and an examination of the flow rate. The numerical simulation models are rectangular pri...sm areas around six single-unit houses. The model houses have two relatively large windows on opposite walls respectively, and five of which have one or two partitions. The area and the configulation of the partitions are same each other, but its positions are different. All of the windows and partitions face the wind vertically. The air flow in the outdoor and indoor space is calculated and measured continuously. The mesh system applied to the simulation is a Multi-Mesh method. The airflow distributions calculated by this method agree well with the results of the wind tunnel tests. The flow rate obtained by the simulation is also nearly equal to that of the wind tunnel tests, but is larger than that calculated by the equation for ordinary ventilation rate. The correct prediction requires total pressure loss of openings of the house.show more
