Abstract For the thermal expansion coefficient of oxide glasses, the parameter has been established on the basis of the mean bonding strength calcu1ated from coulomb forces between cation and oxygen ion. The r...elationship between the values of thermal expansion coefficient measured by previous workers and the parameter was examined for silicate, borate, borosilicate, aluminosilicate, and boroaluminate glasses. The linear relationship existed in the glasses consisted mainly of the network of silicate anions. The validity of the parameter was discussed from a structural point of view of the glasses.show more
