Abstract |
In order to improve the storage efficiency of the solar pond effect of the heat loss due to the evaporation and/or the wind is investigated experimentally with a laboratory solar pond. The effect of t...he salt-gradient is also studied. It is found that the covering of the water surface with a plastic sheet prevents the water evaporation and makes the surface temperature more than the double of that without the cover. The degree of the temperature rise decreases to its half if the wind speed is increased from 0 to 2 m/s but it is recovered by using two plastic sheets instead of one. In case of the salt-gradient water the thermal convection is prevented and thus the storage of the thermal energy is efficient especially when the pond is being cooled.show more
