Abstract |
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of social support on trust of college students (N=142) from the aspect of help-seeking styles. Students were classified according to t...heir help-seeking style. They were asked to rate the perceived social support from a friend. The data were analyzed in terms of the types of social support. Companionship was found to increase trust in others. In students identified as having an excessive help-seeking style, emotional support could increase self-trust. In students identified as having an avoidant help-seeking style, companionship could increase self-trust. Distrust appeared to increase when they perceived high levels of instrumental support.show more
