Abstract The purposes of this study are to investigate the process of self-narrative and to consider the method of analyzing self-narratives. Using corpora of subjects’ conversations, We analyzed the process o...f self-narrative from the perspectives of content and form. Content was divided into the following three types: factual information, narrative self-reference, and response. We focused on the narrative self-reference type, which includes, for example, talking about one’s own ideas or actions. The results indicated that the speaker shared a more personal story when the listener observed without commenting. Further, the speaker felt more comfortable discussing her/his own idea when she or he talked about a specific event in time rather than personal circumstances.show more
