Abstract |
In high waves, ships or floating structures may experience highly nonlinear phenomena such as slamming and water on deck. The rapid progress in computer hardware makes it possible to study such proble...ms with a direct numerical simulation technique in the time domain. The present paper is concerned with the development of a computer code, capable of treating complicated movement of the interface among gas, liquid, and solid. The developed numerical code is based on the CIP and C-CUP methods initiated by Yabe et al. Performance of the method and the problems to be resolved are discussed through comparisons between computed and measured results for interactions of waves with a fixed structure. Moreover, in order to analyze nonlinear interactions of a floating body with waves of various conditions, a numerical wave tank is constructed. Using this numerical wave tank, the wave generation is simulated and accuracy of the generated wave and hydrodynamic forces on the wavemaker is discussed. Additionally, the floating body motions in waves are simulated using this numerical wave tank and the results are discussed.show more
