Abstract For the sake of stable control of electric power systems, robust protection systems, rapid recovery of breakdown points when troubles occur, subsequent stabilization of electric power systems after tr...ouble and simplification of sensing systems, are required. Laser instrumentation can measure the magnetic flux and the electric current without any contact. Also, it can measure internal phase angle without any contact.Therefore we developed optical current transformer for the protection of transmission lines and for stability control of the electric power system. We developed measuring system of internal phase angle for the stable control of synchronous.generator, too. In this study, as the first step we made both an optical current transformer and measuring system of internal phase angle. As the second step, by measuring the characteristics of various materials, we selected useful optical materials for measuring the current and designed optical current transformer. Finally, we evaluated both the performance of the prototype optical current transformer and measuring system of internal phase angle.show more
