Abstract |
This paper points out a few problems concerning so-called E-type pronouns (as named in Evans 1980), and presents an analysis which is immune to them, based on the theory of semantics put forth in Ueya...ma 1998 and her consequent works. As is well-known, the sentences containing E-type pronouns allow the anaphora between the pronoun and the antecedent quantificational expression. The anaphora in question, however, cannot be considered as a typical instance of bound variable anaphora. Instead, this paper proposes that the anaphora should be considered as a kind of "coreference."show more
