Abstract	At the close of the Taisho era, Mitsuharu Kaneko moves away from his former poetics (A House in Red Clay, A Chafer, Wanderings on Water) to his new one, developed after his three-time visits to Shangh...ai in the late 1920's. His new poems abound in stagnant, turbid and descending elements, while his old style is characterized by pure rising images. The article, focused on A Shark Sinks and other poems written almost at the same period with it, concludes that the poet's experiences of Shanghai gave him some poetical moments, which will also play an important role in his later works.show more
