概要 Fukuzawa Yukichi (1835- 1901), one of the most outstanding intellectuals of Meiji Japan, quotes Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)'s works quite often. He seems to have been more than impressed by the scie...ntific achievements of Franklin and by his moral precepts. It is difficult to say if Fukuzawa actually read Franklin's writings extensively and even if he read his autobiography. But one can not but be astonished at the similarities between the two men, separated by time and space as they were, and must admit that courses of their personal and professional lives, and their spirits show several common points. They both chose a writing style that would make them understandable for everyone and this characteristic is also evident in their autobiographies.続きを見る
