Abstract In his last book "Saiho-no-hito" (Westerner), Akutagawa Ryunosuke wrote about his view of Jesus Christ. As "Saiho-no-hito" is a review of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, it is considered very meaningful... to study about Jehovah, His father. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to outline Akutagawa's view of Jehovah. As an initial approach I tried to determine Jehovah's nature in the Bible. Secondly, I tried to know how Akutagawa understood God in the Bible through the biblical commentary by going through the major issues in his book. As a result, I conclude that Jehovah is the only God and Creator of the Universe. Also it is noted that medieval Europe was dominated by a god-centered theology and Akutagawa did not agree with the view of Jehovah in the god-centered theology. Akutagawa explained his thought metaphorically. His view of Jehovah clearly tells us that Akutagawa was a writer who believed in everlasting humanism and he respected the immensity of creativity and immortality of human spirit over the theological concept that was dominant in the medieval Europe when the human creativity was completely disregarded.show more
