Abstract When people stroll in a city, they comprehend the physical environment and determine a root to go. Compared to main streets which have specific and obvious functions, people are required to have their... own choices on alleys, after considering some environmental aspects. This study focuses on such environmental comprehension process, environmental inference and people's decision making in a city. In the research, the alleys' characteristics that influence people's root selection are categorized into 3; l)street entrance, 2)eye-stop, and 3)distant view. Montage pictures in which those three characteristics were controlled and modified were composed as stimuli. Participants for this research were asked to respond their comfort to go in or forward the alley and its composing physical factors were examined.show more
