Abstract This article has two purposes. One is to describe the ways of treating the ethnic education and/or school system through the historical consideration of comparative education research perspectives. An...other purpose is to elaborate a new research perspective for ethnic educational school system with reference to Brian Holmen's Taxonomy. In this first part, "Classic Works of Great Scholars" such as Nicholas A. Hans, Isaac L. Kandel and so forth, are examined how they included ethnic education in their research perspectives. Factor Analysis for "integrated" national education and national character, which are aimed by the people within the paradigm at that time , shows that ethnic education were also only one of the components. Besides, those factors are defined as "one-way" causes not interactive. Those comparative researches have an inclination to think the ethnic existence as an important task to be settled for nation building under Nationalism. In the latter half, I examine perspectives for ethnic educational system in comparative research mainly by two steps. First, I suggest a research framework for problematic approach which I pile up these patterns of taxonomy, and add a level of social conscience to these three patterns' levels. At this framework, various inconsistency between crossing levels (longitudinally) and inconsistency between domains in each level (latitudinally) are distinguished. Furthermore, I suggest the possibility that a policy which made in that society concerned had not only educative functions (negatively) to the society on account of the educational time lag etc... Second, as I presented two figures, the ethnic school system is considered to be an iceberg and its "institutional package" includes ideas, norms and social cultural elements (context). In the case of transfer or transplant of institution from one cultural society to the other society, we should grasp some relevant and linked elements through the framework and examine the possible inconsistency in every level for prediction.show more
