Abstract Energy consumption has seen a dramatic increase with the world economy booming. At the present stage, the traditional energy sources are fossil fuels, such as crude oil, coal and natural gas. In recen...t years, the issues of soaring fossil fuel cost and environmental pollution have become increasingly serious. As a possible solution to these problems, wind power has attracted great attention all over the world. There is still much work to be done in order to further its application, but future generations could benefit from the development of a stable sustainable environment if the limitations of wind power application could be overcome. In this paper, a case study of wind power in China is analyzed and compared with the situation in Japan. The limitations on the development and application of wind power are discussed in detail. For example, there are problems related to construction, consumption matching, connecting with the transmission network, pick shift capability, inadequacy of management and support systems in China. There are also many hindrances to the development and application of renewable energy in Japan, one of which is the attitude of the government. The ministry of economy puts strong emphasis on the utilization of nuclear energy as the main policy for averting an energy crisis, making no efforts to promote renewable energy policies. After these problems are further discussed and analyzed, the importance of promoting the application of wind power is pointed out.show more
