The seasonal fluctuation of a sea grass, Zostera marina, was monthly investigated at Nokonoshima Island within the Hakata Bay, Fukuoka city, from June 2007 to December 2008. The mean length of vegetative branch was longest(100.1cm)in June and shortest(21.2cm)in October in 2007. Then, the branches grew again and the length reached a peak(122.1cm)in June and after that became shortest again in October in 2008. The wet weight of vegetative branch fluctuated in a very similar pattern with the length. In 2008, the fertile branch appeared from April and flowers started to blossom from May. The ratio of fertile branches to all the branches was 12.7%. The mean vegetative density at the study site was 84.4 branches/㎡ in April, 45.2 branches/㎡ in September, 27.7 branches/㎡ in November in 2008.
