Abstract We theoretically study on basic ideas to control a wind turbine by an electronic controller and a synchronous generator. We assume that a wind turbine has a blade of fixed pitch angle. The aerodynamic... properties of a blade are given by a torque coefficient which is assumed to be a function of a tip speed ratio only. Over a rated wind speed, the wind turbine is in stall state. In stall state, the wind turbine becomes unstable. To maintain the stall state, the rotational speed of the blade is adjusted quickly by an electronic controller. We estimate the response time needed for the controller by a motion equation and torque coefficient. We also estimate the maximum torque of a generator needed for stall control and controlling the wind turbine safely for rapid wind change at high wind speed.show more
