Abstract |
Dazai admitted to have written his two stories Chikusei and Sekibetsu so that they might be read by Chinese people. However, there has been no document found to indicate that they were actually transl...ated into Chinese. In this paper I wish to discuss the situation concerning early Chinese translations of Dazai's works. The first Chinese translation of any of Dazai's works seems to be Xishuai (Kirigirisu) by Kebiao Zhang, published in the journal Yicong in January 1942. In this paper, I examine why Kebiao chose to translate this story into Chinese.show more
