Abstract Numerical analyses of Electromagnetic wave propagation in wave guides are carried out by FETD (Finite element time domain) method. This method uses Galerkin's method to discretize Maxwell's equations ...directly in the spatial domain and solves a first-order ordinary differential equation in the time domain. Crank-Nicolson's method and Gear's method are used to solve the equation. For solving the linear equation, IDR(s) iterative method is used. As numerical examples, we calculate one dimensional wave propagation in the region between two parallel plates with a loaded dielectric plate, and wave propagation in nonreflecting boundary condition. For two dimensional wave guides, a triangular pulse propagation, TE_<10> wave excitation in wave guide with a dielectric plate, and wave propagations in the wave guide with dielectric rectangular posts are calculated.show more
