Abstract In this study, we examined over-adaptation and self-esteem during adolescence. In order to examine approaches to adolescents with a tendency toward over-adaptation, we examined how authenticity affect...s over-adaptation and sense of adaptation to school. The concept of "authenticity" we used for this purpose is a sub-concept of "sense of authenticity," which is a part of self-esteem. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 508 individuals. Covariance structure analysis showed that having relationships that encourage "awareness" and "self-confrontation" is effective for adolescents with an over-adaptation tendency. An individual probably must go through a number of stages before he or she can act in accordance with his or her feelings and establish his or her identity. It will therefore be necessary to conduct a qualitative investigation that includes an examination of individual cases.show more
