| Abstract |
We developed a new Driving Simulator to let drivers understand that driving fast is not an effective mode of driving in terms of shortening travel-time. In the study we examine the educational value o...f the simulator for drivers in terms of showing the efficiency of different modes of travel. We compared the traveling time when driving a real car on a real road with that of driving the simulated car on the simulated road. As a result, we found that travel-time on the simulated road was similar to that of traveling on the real road. We then checked the possible educational benefits of this simulator and found that at four given maximum speeds(40km/h,50km/h,60km/h and 70km/h), 3 subjects drove the simulated car as fast as possible to shorten the traveling time. The results showed that the way in which they guessed travel-time before driving was similar to the way they guessed travel-time after driving. According to their reports after the experience of the simulator, they could understand through the experience the inefficiency of driving fast. Thus the simulator seems to be an effective way to educate drivers about the benefits of safe driving.show more
