Abstract	A novel coupled-mode formulation for parallel dielectric waveguides is presented by using a singular perturbation technique. In this formulation, slowly varying amplitude representation is introduced ...in order to rearrange the unperturbed equation. The formulation is applied to a dielectric slab waveguide and an asymmetric directional coupler. It is shown that this formulation enables us to evaluate the magnitude of applied perturbation effects in proper manner.show more
