A Study on the Regeneration of the Shugendou Art of Mt. Hiko and the Geographical Relative : the Stone Buddhist Reliefs of Imakumanokutsu, Kiyomizu, Aoki.

Abstract The purpose of this study is the regeneration of the Shugendou art of Mt.Hiko, and the influence that Shugendou of Mt.Hike gave to each area of Kyushu by analysis of the molding output of three-dimens...ional data. The subjects of survey are the stone Buddhist images carved into the surface of natural rock in the Kamakura era: Imakumanokutsu in Mt.Hiko, Kiyomizu in Kagoshima, and Aoki in Kumamoto. The inscription of Kiyomizu to write down that a Buddhist monk of Mt.Hiko engraved it. As a result, It is revealed that the damaged rocks of Imakumanokuthu ware Amitabha and Bodhisattva of wisdom and the Goddess of Mercy. The size of three big Sanskrit characters on the rock face of Imakumanokuthu was different. And they are unique line engraving expression. It is supposed that people prayed for them from the high different place. It is restored that the Sanskrit characters of Kiyomizu and Aoki on three-dimensional data. Difference in importance was recognized from engraved height or size. The possibility that Buddhist monk of Mt.Hiko carved Sanskrit characters of Aoki increased, because the artistic characteristic and religion concepts have many common points of Kiyomizu, Aoki, and Imakumanokutsu. These show that the faith zone to Mt.Hiko has spread through the whole Kyushu. At the time of these Sanskrit characters production, it falls on the time when Mongolia invaded and attacked in Korea and Song China.
