Abstract Chinese learners of Japanese have trouble in mastering MONODA, KOTODA and NODA due to its various meanings, usages and functions. There are many previous researches on MONODA, KOTODA and NODA, but the...re are still few contrastive studies with Chinese equivalents. Therefore, this paper is intended to clarify the meaning and usage of MONODA, KOTODA and NODA by contrasting them with Chinese words and phrases used in translation. Data to be used are examples from a bilingual Japanese-Chinese edition of some short stories. Analyses of the large-scale data have clarified some similarities and differences between MONODA, KOTODA and NODA.show more
