Abstract |
Long-term, monthly-mean volume transport is estimated by an improved scheme using the coastal sea level data across the Tsushima Straits, At first, this study confirms the geostrophic and hydrostatic... balances by comparing the surface velocity and the sea level gauge data. The surface current is separated into barotropic and baroclinic components corresponding to the net and zero transports through the straits, respectively. This study finds a strong seasonal variation of the reference level of the linear relationship between the sea level difference and the surface current. The new transport estimates based on the improved baroclinic correction are simpler but more accurate than a previous method (Takikawa and Yoon,2005) .show more
