Abstract In this research, the author investigated how the elderly people talked concerning its own life in daily life. The recording of the conversation during free time of the adult daycare center was analyz...ed. The two elderly women's conversations were analyzed, and the following features were found. 1) The narrator try to maintain her originality in talking, though the context of talking has been changed by another participant. 2) The listener has been changing the context of talking by finding the element that can be shared from narrator's talking-it has changed from talking about "I" to talking about "We". Moreover, when he or she did not change the context, the listener had reinforced narrator's originality. The result suggested that in the daily conversation the elderly people try to insist that oneself be a unique person by assuming own background which could be shared with others.show more
