概要 The use of internships, imported from the United States, has expanded at Japanese High Schools. However, their use at general high schools is low compared with their use at vocational high schools(com...mercial high schools and technical high schools. ) This paper attempts to determine whether "career guidance" in general high schools is unduly biased towards university examination guidance. I did this by examining careers guidance given to students and through a survey result of the recognition levels of WBL (work based learning) involving internships amongst high school teachers at each of the three types of school mentioned above. I then compared the results. I also compared the results across general high schools which operated internships, which planned to operate internships but which currently did not, and those which did not operate internships and had no plans to. Five characteristics of general high schools in regards to WBL became clear. 1) Evaluation of the educational, subsequent employment and other effects of WBL was low in general high schools compared to commercial and technical high schools. 2) WBL was less often used in general high schools than in the other two types of schools. 3) General high schools generally regarded entrance examination guidance as being most important. 4) 800% of general high school teachers did not deny that WBL had a place in student development. 5) At general high schools, educational resources for "out of school activity" favoured volunteer activities rather than WBL. When I compared general high schools which had WBL programs, those that planned them and those that neither had nor planned them, I found that: 1) Large and very large high schools had low WBL activity. 2) General high schools with high rates of student entrance to university had low levels of WBL activity. 3) Some general high school teachers denied the relevance of WBL at both school and university. My conclusions lead me to raise the following three questions. First, what should be the basis of high school education? Second, is integrated learning necessary in the high school education stage? Third, how do we deal with the problem that it is often impossible for students to move from vocational high schools to higher educational institutions?続きを見る
