概要 This article critically appraises the Common Curriculum Guide for Peace Education in Northeast Asia developed by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under the... auspices of UNESCO. The authors – who drafted the Guide – reflect on the development process, which involved researchers and educators in and beyond schools in China, Japan and South Korea, three countries entangled with historical conflicts and sociopolitical tensions. The article takes the project as a case to explore (1) how to overcome the paradoxical constraints of working within/beyond nation-states in/through a UNESCO project; (2) how static cultural conceptions in the region limit the possibilities of peacebuilding; (3) how issues of censorship affected the project, including the concern of practicing critical peace education in censored contexts and (4) how to navigate between a common curriculum and the need to contextualize it to local settings. Findings are theorized through the lens of peace education as a global common good, leading to various interpretations of the acceptance and resistance to regionally developed guidelines for practicing peace education in and across national contexts. The article concludes by drawing implications for peacebuilding through education for other regions beyond Northeast Asia.続きを見る
