In the past few years, there has been a wide acceptance of renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, as an outcome of multilateral organizations’ and different economies’ efforts to cope wi...th issues like the energy crisis, global climate change, and the depletion of limited resources. India’s growing solar energy market has provided numerous advantages to society including lower utility bills. However, it has been seen that prosumers increase their electricity consumption after installing solar panels due to lower electricity prices. This is known as solar rebound effect. This study aims to find out the existence of solar rebound effect in India. For this electricity consumption units of residential households from one year before and one year after solar panel installation have been collected and compared. The electricity usage trend indicates that majority of the prosumers have increased their overall electricity consumption following the installation of solar panels, which suggests the presence of solar rebound effect. This is lowering the projected advantages of using solar energy to some extent. Thus, it is imperative to take this phenomenon into account because, if we don’t, we are overestimating the environmental benefits of solar energy, and it is also causing difficulty in accurately estimating future electricity demand.続きを見る
