概要 | Mercury was recently detected above the limit of the Japanese Water Quality Standard (0.0005 mg/L) from groundwater of the middle reaches of the Mikasa River, which lie on the both cities of Fukuoka a...nd Onojo (FUKUOKA PREFECTURE and FUKUOKA CITY, 1998). The abnormally mercury-bearing groundwater occurs in 29 wells in the area of 2 km northwestwards long with 1.5 km width. The maximum value attained 0.026 mg/L Hg. This study intended to clarify the source of mercury by the gold mercury method. A thin gold wire, 1 mm in diameter and 10 cm in length, was hung in a hole of 30 cm deep in the ground for five days. Mercury adsorbed on the gold wire was released by heating and analyzed with an atomic absorption spectrometer of which detection limit was 0.01 ng. The result shows that mercury vapor was captured at two points on the ground surface. These points are definitely located on a maximum of the contour map showing mercury concentrations in groundwater. The fact indicates that mercury vapor is always upwelling along fractures, especially at the crossing points of two fault-systems developed in the granite bedrock. As a result, it is suggested in the area that two NW-trending faults and at least four unknown NS-trending faults may exist in granite, being actually concealed by the Quaternary sediments.続きを見る |
