For the fixation of coastal dune s it is essential to know the distribution of velocities and directions of wind on the dunes. In winter, howevqr, it is difficult to carry out the necessary field work owing to inclemency of weather, spray of waves, moving sands, driving snow, etc. For this reason the instruments used should be self-recording, but existing types of portable anemometers and wind-vanes are not self-recording, while self-recorders are massive and unwieldy. To remedy the situation, a portable self-recording anemometer and anemoscope has been designed and built, the construction of which is shown in Fig. 1.
