It is very important to ascertain the suitable time-period for a test in the determination of the water-supplying power of soils under varying soil moisture conditions, by the soil point method. There is, however, no fundamental guidance whereby exactly to determine this time-period. The present work has been undertaken to supply that deficiency. For this purpose the relation between the amount of water absorbed by soil point and the corresponding absorption time which obtained in free water and various moisture conditions of eight soils of varying water-holding capacity from 35.7 % to 123.7 % (as volume %), was investigated. From these data, the author sought to obtain an empirical formula for the absorbing process of soil point, and using this formula, to ascertain the most suitable time-period in question, in order that the soil point method might be more reliable for the determination of water-supplying power of soils.
