概要 In "Saihonohito" (The Westerner), Akutagawa viewed the Holy Spirit as a mere coincidence that works in man as "Fate", and he reflected this view in the life of Jesus. Namely, he looked at Jesus as a "...Child of Fate" who was born of Mary, a commoner mother and was controlled by the Holy Spirit and lived a life of suffering. Akutagawa perceived Jesus' birth as fate out of a coincidence and this opinion was reflected in his comparison of the births of Jesus and John the Baptist. This is also hinted at in his quotation of C. Lombroso's theory of the madness of genius. In summary, Akutagawa claimed the Holy Spirit is not a holy being but a subject to overcome in eternity. He described Jesus as a character under the control of the Holy Spirit, which I think is a manifestation of his desperation to overcome the "Fate" which ultimately influences man's life.続きを見る
