Following an introduction to the fundamentals of thermodynamics and intermolecular forces, they present an introduction to the classical models and their applications, including cubic equations of state, activity coefficient models, and their combination in the EoS/GE mixing rules. They then present several advanced models in the form of association of equations of state developed since the early 1990s, focusing on the cubic-plus-association equation of state and the statistical associating fluid theory. Finally, they offer chapters that illustrate applications of thermodynamics in environmental science and colloid and surface chemistry, examine models for mixtures containing electrolytes, offer introductions to the thermodynamic tools available for mixtures with biomolecules, and explore the possibility of using quantum chemistry in engineering thermodynamics.
