概要 In the world of English scholarship there are many works on Zeami and his immediate successors as well as works discussing the Edo period Noh theater. Missing is a book-length study about what happene... between these two important periods in Noh history. This book provides the missing link. By examining the life and career of the most prominent noh practitioner of the furyu Noh composer, Kanze Kojiro Nobumitsu (1435-1443) Lim showcases the critical late Muromachi Noh scene, characteristics of plays produced by Nobumitsu and his peers, modern academic discourse on noh, and the significance of Zeami in both premodern and modern periods. This book is divided into three parts: Part I provides the historical framework in which this study is situated. It discusses Nobumitsu's time and life, using Zeami and his treatises as points of reference. Part II discusses the formation of the modern category of furyu noh. Part III examines the problematic issues in the study of late Muromachi noh plays. Book jacket.続きを見る
