概要	Mixed systems of differential and algebraic equations (DAE) form one of the simplest ways to model a physical system, because they allow separate models to be created for subcomponents that can then b... pasted together with a network. They were originally devised to simulate the behavior of complex systems, but are now used widely in science and technology. Here, mathematicians, computer scientists, and mechanical and chemical engineers apply them to control and optimization problems. Among the topics are the regularization of linear and nonlinear descriptor systems, spectra and leading directions for linear DEAs, linear quadratic optimal control problems with switch points and a small parameter, direct transcription with moving finite elements, and applying Pontryagin's minimum principles for endpoint optimization in batch processes.
