概要 Hagar appears in the Genesis story as the daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh who was Abraham's concubine. Gabler-Hover (English, Georgia State U.) explores the ethnic ambiguity of Hagar in 19th century A...erican women's literature. Although depicted as black (and later mulatto) in such works as , , and , Gabler-Hover argues that Hagar stood for the aspirations of white women to resist patriarchal bounds on their own behavior. She contends that it is Hagar's blackness that justifies her unconventional behavior in the view of the white authors. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)続きを見る
