概要	When the English monarchy was resurrected in 1660, the new royal court of Charles II brought back many of the problems that characterized the earlier Stuart courts, such as libertinism and arbitrary g...vernment. In the Restoration, however, these problems were set against a background of the tensions and anxieties of a society that had in the not so distant past seen rebellion, regicide, civil war, and the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. While many other accounts of this period concentrate on the sex and libertinism, Jenkinson looks at the dynamics of the court culture that operated under the public radar, showing how the activities of the court itself undermined the king's attempts to ensure the survival of the Stuart monarchy.
