概要 Bergan-Cico (public health, Syracuse U.) analyzes the entangled history of war and the drug trade. She argues that drugs and alcohol are pursued as refuges from suffering; that for centuries drugs hav... been used to fund wars and other political projects; and that the militaristic approach of the "war on drugs" has intensified conflicts in the western hemisphere. The book begins by examining the Opium Wars and showing how they established a precedent for drug-based war. The author then traces the duality of war and the drug-trade over seven generations, considering the US Civil War, WWII, the Cold War, MK-ULTRA and Project Bluebird, the Vietnam War, and the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Her concluding remarks point toward a humanistic approach to substance abuse prevention and intervention. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) 続きを見る
