概要	Retired from teaching anthropology, Obeyesekere continues to write about the intersection between women and Buddhism. She explains that this work began when she translated a few poems from an old cycl... for an anthology of folk poetry she was constructing, was asked some years later to translate the entire cycle, was intrigued by its layering, found religious--as opposed to popular--texts telling similar but different stories, and ended up with this bouquet of poems and prose about a figure who began in history and legend but entered into Buddhist theology about the first century AD. Though perhaps not as rigorous as her earlier academic translations of the same texts, she says, these are as true to the original meaning. They are not indexed.
