| 概要 | This study focuses attention on early 19th-century novels that are usually given only cursory attention as antecedents of the literature for children that flowered later. The author has found these wo...ks a rich avenue for understanding the cultural context pertaining to children and to literature in a time of change. Horne is a former children's book editor and has taught at the Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons College. She has arranged her study in four chapters discussing "parents and children on the deserted Isle, the function of death in the Family Robinsonade, fictionalized history for children, and contesting ordinary femininity in historical fiction for girls."
