概要 Bekkaoui (English, U. Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah, Morocco) has gathered a collection of 4 accounts by white women captives, and 4 purported captives (whose accounts are fictitious) and translated them...into English, or edited their earlier English translation. In the long essay that introduces the texts, Bekkaoui situates the narratives within the larger context of racism and Orientalism, describing the norms of slavery, the actual absence of sexual abuse or rape (despite all western assumptions and fears this would be the norm). He also usefully presents comparative evidence of the fate of Muslim women slaves in Christian lands. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) 続きを見る
